Constipation

Constipation refers to the condition of having difficulty in bowel movement, with dry or hard stools, usually only having one bowel movement for several days, sometimes even failing to expel without using a laxative, suppository or enema. In Western Medicine, constipation is deemed as a symptom of various diseases, mainly caused by nervous system lesion, body lesion, intestinal lesion and bad bowel movement habits. It can be divided into colonic constipation and protogynous constipation. The colonic constipation is caused by slow movement of food debris in the colon, while protogynous constipation is caused by overstay of food in rectum, also called difficult defecation.
